There has been a debate about how to handle the case of wind parallel to the ridge, for a Hipped End of a hipped roof. See graphic below to illustrate.
ASCE 7-16 Fig 27.3-1 gives one set of values when the wind is normal to the ridge and another when it is parallel to the ridge.
One of our users was able to get clarification on this issue from the ASCE 7 Wind Sub-Committee, and they advised that the lower section of the table (Parallel to Ridge for all θ) should be used.
Note: at different times we have adopted both approaches in the software, and so it could result in different results depending upon the version of the software being ran. At the date of this article (November 6, 2023) the software has been corrected to use the Parallel to Ridge values.
